Wrestling Update

I took the boys up to Mahomet today. It was a madhouse! 630 wrestlers and a terribly run tournament. The Fieldhouse is great facility but the seating is horrible. Not nearly enough for 2000 people.

With that said, the boys wrestled really well. Egan went 3-0 for the day and took first place. Bowen went 2-1 and took first. But once again, the idiots running the tournament screwed up and gave the first place trophy to the kid that beat Bowen. The kid that beat Bowen also ended up 2-1 but his loss was by a pin to a kid that Bowen beat 5-0. According to scoring rules, Bowen would have/should have been declared the first place winner. I personally didn't feel like taking a first place trophy from a 10 year old. I explained to Bowen what happened and he was cool with the knowledge that he was the winner even though he didn't get the trophy.

Plus, I think the scales at Mahomet were off today. They had Bowen weighing in at 80 lbs. I didn't agree with that but they don't allow coaches in the weigh in room. But it actually worked out to his advantage since he was so much faster than the other boys. He was controlling the matches much better than usual. Egan had an exceptional day. He was actually wrestling rather than trying to muscle everyone around. He is still a little sloppy but getting better.

On a side note, we will NOT be going to Monticello on the 7th of February. So our remaining meets will be the Mt. Zion meet on January 31st and then the Chatham meet on February 14th. We might also be heading back out to Kansas City in April. Bowen wants another shot at getting his All-American status.
